  • what you did and what happened
  • the file if an import fails

Files you send are only used to fix the problem and are deleted afterwards.

FAQ

Where is my data and how do I back it up?

On your device, in a database called workouts.sqlite. There is no cloud.

To back it up, export your workouts. FIT keeps the most data. On a computer you can also copy the database while extractor is closed:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Containers/com.eikedreier.extractor/Data/Documents
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Eike Dreier\Extractor
Why does extractor ask for Health access?

To import the workouts, routes and heart rate that other apps and devices saved to Apple Health or Health Connect. extractor only reads, and the data stays on your device.

To turn it off: on iPhone, Health app → profile → Apps → Extractor. On Android, Health Connect → App permissions → extractor. Imported workouts stay until you delete them.

Which file formats are supported?

FIT, GPX, TCX, CSV and GeoJSON, for both import and export. extractor can also import the export archives (ZIP) from Strava, Garmin and Polar.

Why does an export say some data was lost?

Not every format can store every kind of data. GPX, for example, has no standard place for every sensor value. Instead of dropping data silently, extractor tells you what didn't fit. FIT keeps the most.

How do I disconnect Withings?

In Settings, tap Disconnect next to Withings. Your sign-in details are deleted from the device. Workouts you already downloaded stay.

How do I uninstall extractor on Windows?

Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Extractor and choose Uninstall. Your data stays in %APPDATA%\Eike Dreier\Extractor. Delete that folder if you want it gone too.
